We’re made for this!
1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV : “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Everyone faces trouble in their lives.
Life is filled with dangerous storms, the loss of loved ones, and illnesses, which are experiences shared by all. How we respond to these challenges reflects our faith or lack thereof. The Bible provides numerous stories of remarkable faith displayed by men and women who faced tragic circumstances. God, in His mercy, revealed himself to them and left us with 66 chapters of history and hope to help us overcome trials when they come.
Those in Christ have this hope: God's strength is perfected in our weakness. When trouble comes, our first defense is to thank God for our circumstances. Whatever comes our way, we can use certain weapons to overcome it. One of these weapons is gratitude. Worship dethrones the enemy and gives God the rightful seat in our hearts. With a renewed mind, we can have different perspectives on attacking problems.
Here are a few examples of having a heart of gratitude:
Here's the revised version of the text:
An unexpected circumstance arises, and you have no money to cover the bill. Instead of panicking, your response is, "Thank you, Lord, for the lack. I am grateful for the opportunity to build my faith and to get to know you as my provider." Your doctor gives you the worst possible results, but don't allow fear to overtake you. Come to peace and thank the Lord for this sickness; I will come to know you as my healer. Your spouse has a different view of current issues, and you thank the Father for this, as it helps our love to mature. You may have been terminated from your previous job, but your promise indicates that good things are in store for me. Therefore, I will express my gratitude for the new opportunities.
In our faith journey, we come to know God in various ways. We acknowledge God as our Lord when we face unexpected situations with gratitude. When trouble arises, the devil wants us to complain, but as readers of the Bible, we remember what happened to the children of Israel when they grumbled about everything - they did not reach the promised land. The truth is, when we complain instead of worshipping, we are essentially giving devotion to the devil. We are dethroning God in our hearts as if He is not all-powerful.
Every difficulty you will ever face is an opportunity to discover another character of God. Friends, there is nothing too big for God. There is no situation too small that He does not care about concerning you. Allow Him to be Lord over everything in your life. The enemy is already defeated. So when trouble comes, tell that devil to get out of your way. You’re made for this.
Here is an example of how to pray when things are not going well.
Father, thank you for this obstacle. I am unsure how to approach this, but I know you do. Give me peace and wisdom and direct me to all truth concerning this problem. I chose to focus on you than the troubles I am facing. I declare Romans 8:28, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. May your strength be made perfect in this circumstance. In Jesus' name, Amen.
