Devotional: Timeless Truth in a Changing World
In a world obsessed with "metrics, influence, evolution, and acceptance," it's easy to think that everything must evolve—even our faith. But what about God's Word? Does time, culture, or even the anointing or evolution change His will and plans?
Hebrews 13:8 declares, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." God's character, His promises, and His truth are unchanging. Malachi 3:6 reinforces this, stating, "I the Lord do not change."
If God's Word is eternal, why then have we, as Christians, strayed so far from its clear teachings? We hear justifications like:
"Times have changed."
"We've evolved."
"The Bible is outdated."
“That was then.”
“If what I am doing was wrong, God would convict me through his Holy Spirit.”
“God has called me, and he alone can correct me.”
“God won't mind”
“Everyone else is doing it”
“I'm not hurting anyone”
“It's my life; leave me to God”
“God is not real”
“That is not what the scripture means”
“You are twisting it for your benefit”
But these are dangerous excuses and means of justifying our disobedience to God's word. While evolution and culture may shift as time progresses, God's Word remains the unchanging standard for truth and morality.
So, how have we drifted? We have:
Prioritized culture and acceptance over biblical truth. We've become more concerned with fitting in than standing up for the infallible word of God.
Embraced a "pick and choose" approach to Scripture. We follow the parts we like and ignore the parts that challenge or restrict us.
Allowed human reasoning to override God's clear commands. We trust our understanding more than the wisdom of God.
It's time for a heart check. Are we truly following God's Word, or are we conforming to our desires and the patterns of this world?
Let's commit to:
Studying and meditating on Scripture daily.
Seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance to understand and apply God's Word.
Surrounding ourselves with godly counsel.
Examining our motives and aligning our actions with God's will.
Surround ourselves with godly counsel: Find wise mentors and accountability partners who challenge us to live according to God's Word.
God is a God of order: He gives instructions and establishes specific orders in homes and the church.
Let's not be swayed by culture's shifting sands. Let's stand firm on the solid rock of God's Word, living lives that honor Him and reflect His unchanging truth.
